So long as you ignore the references to “the four corners of the earth” (easily exchangeable with “the cardinal directions”) and “the pillars of the earth” the bible was pretty right on when it talks about the earth hanging from nothing and being round. Though some may humanize this and say that the stated fact was an easy guess because everything else they saw in the sky was round, and hanging upon nothing.

Jeremiah 23:27 talks about god knowing how people will try to erase his name. No, it’s not completely eradicated. But it’s quite curious as to why it was stripped out during translation.
“Don’t use my name in vein” doesn’t mean don’t use it at all, in fact not using it is more damaging to his desire to be worshiped.

Rabbits are chewers of the Cud.

All of these things are mostly out of human reach. I doubt anyone studied rabbits that much and then decided to put that in the bible.
A lot of non-believers will also try to insist that the Hebrew word describing the earth meant STRICTLY like a disc or flat circle. To this, I say “spare me”. But at the same time I’ll have to admit, “Where the hell are these pillars coming from?”. I can understand 4 corners = 4 cardinal directions. But “pillars” is really beyond me.
I also think it’s quite a stretch to insist that “Don’t use my name in vein” is what really battered away god’s name (Jehovah)
The phrase itself is saying “Don’t use my name wastefully” which REALLY DOES imply USE IT EFFECTIVELY… which means USE IT.

Figured I’d write this just to let others know I’m not neglecting due credit.

BTW: I’m not saying that the bible was right about the picture. I’m just putting that up there because that’s what I’ve come from.

Wouldn’t the better filter be to just let the earth go on about its own and see how people behaved WITHOUT the selfishness-extracting incentive of gaining eternal life?

Some CopyPasta from myself from the OH SO PRESTIGIOUS Yahoo Answers!

A lot of you here just blurt out answers (both atheists, and theists)… So some of you will say “It’s ALL BULL****” or some of you will say “JUST BELIEVE!”

I have put some things under consideration. The result may be that such things still don’t hold anything for god but It’s nice to have a thoroughly logical explanation as to why not.

-Chariots under the red sea. A claim I’ve heard but I have no idea where to obtain reliable information

-The earth being described as round or as a circle (i mean yes… you could argue that “OH THE BIBLE SAYS CIRCLE AS IN DISC AS IN FRISBEE LIKE DISC!!!” but it was also the word for round… at the same time I think it’s a natural conclusion, you see that the moon is round, and so is the sun. This misunderstanding of both being flat discs could have led the convenient modern misunderstanding that the bible was saying round when it could have really meant a disc. It’s more in favor of theists though, but it’s likely to be so in the first place due to other related celestial bodies. There isn’t really a natural inclination to say it’s a square or triangle or trapezoid)

-Quarantine…. this was brought up by someone who visited my online forum the other day. I find it hard to believe that people weren’t able to observe the effects of distance in relation to sickness. The wisdom of quarantine was said to be given by god, but it kinda makes sense after you see a couple of people get sick around a sick person. (especially leprosy)

-Is there any perfectly fitting Numerology? The bible throws around a lot of prophecies using numbers and such. But it seems you can match numbers to any variable, especially basic number running from 1-12

-Babylon the City being inhabited ever again? I wrote a blog page on this. Again, the condition is likely because it’s a city in the middle of a desert that had it’s water supply cut of, the prediction to say it will not be inhabited is pretty earthly. But the fact that 4 different groups of people went there Mazaeus, Alexander the Great, a Parthian ruler & Saddam might suggest that it was inhabited, but does the bible mean inhabited to it’s former glory? Well you can say that it only means living there when it sets the standard of an Arab pitching his tent, BUT then you could say “OH… it means ONLY ARABS”. Dear God, please make your prophecies a little more cut and dry
Here is my blog post on it though

-Soddom and Gomorah and all that brimstone. So I’ve heard both places have brimstone due to archeological findings. What is a source for this? And if they do have brimstone then are there any alternative methods that could have brought about all this brimstone that someone could have used to give god credit invalidly.

I was raised Christian, so these few things I know. To be honest I never viewed other religions as having much of a chance, could be due to emotionally tied bias, but at the same time I don’t see a whole lot of hindus or jews coming to the debate platform… Then at the same time my struggles came from Christianity.
